Some like it hot: Lucifer’s Pizza
Even though I like my men hot, I can’t really say the same for my food. I admit it: I’m all about bland-ish bites rather than spicy selections. Yet my boyfriend? Totally on the other side of the spectrum—he prefers all his meals on the caliente side. (He even plans to start his own hot sauce company one day! Needless to say, I probably won’t be the taste tester.) So when I heard that Lucifer’s Pizza offers their pies on a scale of “zero” to “blazing,” I knew that the Los Feliz-based pie joint would be our next date destination.
Sittin’ pretty in the happening Hillhurst neighborhood, Lucifer’s is a small-ish venue serving up 23 different types of pizza, from treasured standbys like four-cheese and veggie to innovative concoctions like roast pumpkin w/prosciutto. Along with four different “chilli rating” levels of hotness, visitors can also personalize with gluten-free dough or vegan cheese. And the restaurant definitely does its theme justice; swathed in ominous black and sans a/c, the restaurant can get pretty blazing hot itself! The Hades-inspired theme carries over to the food as well; their menu features “Damned Good Pizza” and a “RIP” (Rewards in Pizza) Program for loyal patrons.
Some must-try pies: the Spagnolo (a thick-crust pizza featuring jumbo shrimp, chorizo, fresh spinach, chili, and garlic), the Thai Satay Chicken (with red onion, sun-dried tomatoes, green bell peppers, green onions, shredded chicken, and Thai peanut sauce), and Ceasar’s Palace (with chicken, caramelized onions, olives, anchovies, bacon, romaine, and parmesan cheese). True to form, my boyfriend dug the Ringburner, which tantalizes the tongue with pepperoni, jalapenos, black pepper, bell pepper, and hot chili sauce.
And of course, Lucifer’s offers delivery for those who’d rather couch potato it up. (They also deliver to Greek Theatre concert-goers—how cool is that?)
So get thee to Lucifer’s….for some hellishly good pizza pies! Or be damned if you don’t.
